    sugestions for a new 1911

I recently picked up a ww2 RR 1911a1 and love it but its more a collector pistol than a shooter. I would like to get a new shooter, and like the history behind Colt. I am looking at a Colt competition and a gold cup. I like the finish on the gold cup better but like the sights better on the competition. I could swap sights, but was wondering is there is any other brands I should consider. The LGS is a big Kimber shop.

I'm a huge Springfield fan. If you're looking for target sights the Range Officer would fit the bill nicely.

Well, I'll ask the obvious question.

    What's your budget?

That alone is a big deal in the 1911 world.

This is asked all the time here, you'll find plenty of threads if you look around. Short answer though: Springfield or Colt.

Are the Springfields US made? How does the TRP finish hold up compared to the bile on a gold cup?

Some are. Within the last 4 years they all have been made in the US. Older ones vary between US and Brazil. There is no difference in parts or quality.

I have no experience with Colt. And finish is something that is completely irrelevant to me so I can't help you there.

You are going to have a very hard time finding a TRP with a brazil stamp. Most of them, except for the really old ones, were made in Springfield's US facility in IL. The fit and finish on it will be better than any Colt in that price range. The armory kote holds up very well also.

I have more Colts than Springfields, but the TRP is the best value you can get in a gun at that price range. The range officer would be an excellent choice if you are strictly looking at target shooting. You could find one of those for about 700 if you looked around a little.
