Scientology and the aftermath (show)

Anyone watch Leah Remini's new show on A&E? She was a life long Scientologist via her parents. It appears the cracks in scientology beginning to show as they have been very effective at suppressing people from speaking out by litigation, intimidating, etc (1). Obviously, the "church" disputes it all. Ground zero for them is Clear Water FL, which I only learned about from the show. Full episodes if interested:

Noted sir. Watching for vans with blacked out windows. As goofy as that sounds, that's something they actually do.

Pretty much. Article I posted hits the major points of all that well. His stolen valor activities as WWII hero, when in fact he was essentially kicked out, is low point perhaps.

I think it accomplishes a great deal. Such orgs always do best in the shadows, which is why they resist any form of public scrutiny. A show like on a major network shines a light in the shadows and is getting attention.

I've watched every ep. Very interesting.

The only thing that came as a surprise to me, was they are far larger than I imagined. The behavior it text book cult stuff, so that part is not surprising. That one could develop such a "religion" from a terrible sc fi writer who failed at pretty much everything, just affirms this:

Scientology appears the ultimate MLM...

Only time will tell, but one show will make little difference, but various shows, investigative journalism, etc will. It's cumulative. How they got tax free status reinstated as a religion defies logic. That's what saw them explode in size and membership:

"In 1967, the IRS revoked the Church’s tax-exempt status, a decision reasserted by each and every American court to which the Church brought challenges over a subsequent 25-year-period. A 1984 U.S. Tax Court ruling, for instance, found that the Church “made a business out of selling religion” and that Hubbard and his family had diverted millions of dollars to their personal accounts. The Los Angeles Superior Court, meanwhile, deemed Hubbard “a pathological liar” driven by “egotism, greed, avarice, lust for power and vindictiveness and aggressiveness against persons perceived by him to be disloyal or hostile.”
