    Turkey's new infantry rifle

Interesting that they're sticking with 7.62x51mm for their rifle:

"Turkey's state-owned Machines and Chemical Industries Board (MKEK) delivered on 11 January the first 500 serially-produced MPT-76 battle rifles to the Turkish Land Forces Command (TLFC).

The rifles delivered on 11 January are the first batch from a 2015 deal which will see the production of around 35,000 MPT-76s for the TLFC, Naval Forces Command, and the Gendarmerie General Command. 20,000 of these are being manufactured by MKEK, with the remaining 15,000 being produced by privately owned KaleKalip, which co-designed the weapon."

So a AR and a SCAR had a baby? That's what it looks like.

MAC actually got to handle, shoot, and field strip one. Any thoughts on SCAR comparisons? Does this have any features that seem well thought out?

If asking me, it's a Q above my pay grade. I must defer to the M4C brain trust.

It is very similar to an HK 417 with some minor changes. Turkey has long been using HK derived designs so this is just an extension of that.

As ski said, it is more of an iteration of the HK417.

Which is patterned after the 416, which is a piston AR yes? Looks like they took the stock from a SCAR, stuck it on what's obviously an AR based design, at least to my eyes.

I'm surprised they didn't just copy a CZ 805 Bren. Well I guess they wanted a 7.62 instead.

From what I've read, the Turkish aren't very impressed with the 5.56mm as a general service cartridge.

willbrink, it uses hk 417 stocks. Which in turn are Ar15 stocks with on a larger receiver extension as the 417 carrier does not have a narrow tail to fit in a typical diameter ar15 receiver extension like most other Ar10/DPMS/KAC pattern guns. The Turks added some plastic to the pistol grip and stock so that they flow together a little more for one reason or other that might make it appear more like the scar stock.

You can see the added girth of the 417 receiver extension in this photo:
