    Modular Handgun System contract award

    From today's DoD contract awards:

Sig Sauer Inc., Newington, New Hampshire, was awarded a $580,217,000 firm-fixed-price contract for the Modular Handgun System including handgun, accessories and ammunition to replace the current M9 handgun. Bids were solicited via the Internet with nine received. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Jan. 19, 2027. Army Contracting Command, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, is the contracting activity (W15QKN-17-D-0016).

    A surprise or no?

ArmyTimes said: "After operational testing, the new pistol should be fielded this year, according to the release. "

So do they already have a new design or is it in their regular line already? P320 I'm guessing?

Maybe this means Beretta will remove head from ass a little more and get more variants that others want out for sale? I know, don't hold breath, but one can hope.

No. The way Glock field strips eternally ensures that shall never happen.

Meh It's just a pistol and I'm glad the Army is buying them because I most certainly am not.

For the sake of nostalgia I'd certainly keep it.

Yeah, kind of surprising since Glock won the FBI contract.

I think the Army's criteria were different for the pistol, though, and they wanted suppressors included and maybe ammo, too. Sig has all of those things, so it could have played into how things shook out.
