    Ammo Suggestions for Colt 6951

    Greetings all,
I recently picked up 6951 as you may have surmised from the title. From what I've read, there are some different intricacies to the 9MM Carbine/Sub Gun. That being said, what is everyone finding to be effective for cycling and function? I regularly carry Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P at work and use Winchester 9MM 124gr NATO for practice/training for my Glocks. I'm guessing I wouldn't want to go lower than that weight for the carbine, my hypothesis is that 115gr +P+ would fragment like an M67 grenade. Additionally, I plan to run a Geissele SSA if the 6951 cooperates.

Should I stick with the 124 +P/NATO? Go with 147/147 +P? Am I overthinking it and 115 +P/+P+ is fine?

Aside from NATO FMJ, it will be all Speer Gold Dot, Federal LE HST or Winchester Ranger I will be using. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply! I don't think I've had any experience with a 9MM out of anything larger than an M9 or G17, aside from an MP5 years ago. We had either Winchester Ranger or Black Talon 127 +P+ for those, don't remember which. There doesn't seem to be as much 'research' on the larger carbines such as ballistic gel tests.

I mostly use Speer Lawman 124 unsuppressed and 147 suppressed in mine and both work 100% using Colt mags.

I have a suppressed 6951 SBR. I use it for quiet wild hog eradication , use 147 grain Gold Dots.

    They get the job done.

I have a lot of experience seeing end results of 147 Gold Dots on pigs. Yes it kills the small ones with one well placed shot.
However 9mm is not my first choice if I'm meat hunting and want guaranteed first shot kills. It also is not my home defense rifle.

Please let me know how the SSA works. I just got a Geissele two stage SD-E to try in mine.

    Have fun,
    RFA
