Questions regarding pinning and welding muzzle devise on barrel?

I looked at some old threads and got some info, however I wanted to ask this myself.

Would drilling through a muzzle devise and into a barrel, then taping threads into them, putting a set screw slightly counter sunk so it could be welded (TIG) over be a legal way of permanently pinning a muzzle devise on a barrel to comply with the minimum length requirement? Then of course the four other welds that need to be done.

    Thanks in advance, NYH1.

Yes, that would be legal. But the threading sounds like unnecessary work, a solid pin would be legal and less work. Why the threading method and what are the "four other welds" a reference to?

I just figured putting a set screw in would be easy. I guess a solid pin would be easier.

If the barrel is under 16" and a muzzle devise in going to be added to make it 16" doesn't have to be pinned and welded in four places?

    Thanks, NYH1.

No. It simply needs one blind pin and weld, or silver solder.

Not so sure in NY. Nothing would surprise me.

I have dealt with NY before, and I am not familiar with any such requirement.

So all I have to do is pin and then weld over the pin and I'm good to go? Like I said, the muzzle devise is going to make up the rest of the length need to be over the 16" legal length.

    Thanks, NYH1.

If it is a muzzle device approved by the state.

I thought you can't have any muzzle device in NY on an AR now? No brake, no flash hider, no compensator, no threaded barrel able to accept either. I guess unless it has no other features and no detachable magazine. Or registered lower? Not sure how it works.
