Popularity of the 12.5" carbine-gas SBR?

Hodge Defense 12.5" carbine gas 556 barrel. FN CHF. Gassed for "professional use" with suppressor in mind. Don't wait, (great price at $300). It was $350 at optactical before it sold out < 1 day.

Note that this one appears to be gov't profile, not Hodge's special contour, which explains the price difference.

Apparently someone fat-fingered the pricing. I guess it's the standard Hodge profile, and 1 USD cheaper than OPT (plus S&H).

Indeed, changed now to $349, still says "government profile" though?

From what I've been told, that's probably just a bad description. I'll also note that one of the guys that helped develop the profile has speculated that the barrel may actually be heavier than a standard gov't profile 12.5".

The 14.5 barrel was designed to weigh the same as the normal M4 barrel, just with the weight in better spots, so one (sic) the 12.5 it's likely to actually be a bit heaver than a govt profile type barrel because we moved the weight from the front to the back

Looks like the Hodge is the same weight as the CA (1 lb 5 oz), but in a better profile (or at least that's what I think most would argue). The IG posts by WO also claim a "new proprietary steel alloy"; does this mean that it's not the standard M249 machine gun barrel steel (since that's hardly something new)? I've seen Hodge explicitly state that the barrels are 9310H.

So i also reached out and heard from Roy. These barrels have gas ports that are a little larger than CA at .70 or thereabouts. He also said complete 12.5 hodge uppers were coming in the future and he would get some.
