Did someone hold your hand the first time you attempted to get a stamp?

    Because that's what I need.

I think it would be fun to have a suppressor but every time I start to look into it seems like a legal maze with 12 steps and months of waiting.

    Really kills the interest.

It all feels like I'm rebuilding an engine but have go through legal hoops to order parts and then hope I measured everything correctly then I can pay and wait eight months for the parts.

How about a web site that explains basic terminology regarding legalisms as well as suppressor terminology?

-Why would I buy pistol suppressor that weighs 9 oz when there are others that way half that?

-What the hell is suppressor "piston"?

-Some pistols require a "booster", some don't. How the heck do I know?

-How important is being able to disassemble the suppressor? (center fire pistol)

-If I buy a threaded barrel does it have to have a shoulder after the threads?

-Is it better to use a factory barrel and have threads welded on an adapter or should I buy an after market one if available?

-Which suppressors will clear my pistol sights?

-Why can't I just send a company my info and have them fill out paper work and send it for me?

-Is filling out an NFA trust form yourself stupid if your not a lawyer because you could end up fined or charged with a crime?

-If ATF will send the trust paperwork for free why does some company charge money to send you forms you have to fill out yourself?

    -Etc., etc.

Sometimes I want to build a kit-car, but the juice isn't worth the squeeze. I get the same feeling when I consider a suppressor.
I can't be alone. Especially when it serves little purpose. (for me) Essentially something that would be used for plinking around.

If I could just tell somebody, "here is $1000. Get me a barrel and suppressor that will work great in my pistol in all aspects. I know it will be many months but let me know when I can come pick it up." I'd do it today.

I can't help you with picking out a pistol suppressor but these threads might help with the paperwork side of it.

Once you finally figure out all that stuff check with the dealer buying it through to find out what they charge to submit the form 4s for you. I say this because for my first two cans I brought in they got me for150$ per serial number. I stopped using them after that for cans....

I simply did research and used forums to assist me to fill out the paperwork and purchase. It really isn't rocket science and the worse that can happen is they send it back for corrections and it takes a little longer. The waiting sucks but is uncontrollable by me. As far as what the different part of a suppressor are that info is readily available on YouTube and the inter webs. Google is your friend as is the use of forums and customer reviews.

What part of Florida are you in?

I've done this meeting dozens of times.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

I'll delete all the comments and try to answer the actual questions:

    1. You won't find a 4.5oz pistol suppressor...or at least not one I'd buy. Maybe you were looking at a rimfire can?

    2. The piston is what attaches to the threaded barrel, and is generally the only piece you have to change to mount the suppressor to a host with a different thread pitch.

    3. Tilting barrel pistols need a booster...fixed barrel pistols don't.

    4. Really important if you plan on shooting cast lead bullets, or 22LR. Not as important if you're not. Most everything on the market these days is user-serviceable, with the SiCo Osprey being the big exception.

    5. Depends. Most standard threaded pistons will index on the shoulder, while metric often index on the muzzle.

    6. I'd go aftermarket. If you can't source one, then have the factory barrel extended by an outfit like ADCO may be an option.

    7. Very few if you have standard pistol sights. The AAC Illusion, Surefire Ryder and Silencer Osprey are options that might, but might not.

    8. You can. Silencer Shop operates that way, as do most local dealers that are worth using.

    9. Not sure how that could happen.

    10. ATF isn't involved with trust paperwork. You can find free trust templates, use online templates for $75-$150, or pay a lawyer several hundred bucks. Really depends on how involved you want it to be. Silencer Shop just announced a really neat program called the Single Shot Trust today that would be worth looking into.

...and I can almost guarantee you that after you do it once or twice, you'll wonder what all the fuss is about. It's actually fairly painless.

No, not exactly, but there are plenty of websites and forums that will gladly assist you in getting started. Now I have a F1/F4 out and awaiting approval. Once you do it the first time, it becomes much easier.

I formed a trust. My lawyer is an sot and took care of everything for me.

Get a pistol. Get a threaded barrel (like a storm lake), make sure your piston threads and barrel threads match, before purchasing everything.

Silencer Shop just started the "One Shot Trust". Read the description on it. It's simple and they do it all for you, if they have the suppressor you wish to purchase.

I have a more complicated trust but this version, if I were starting new, looks appealing and would solve part of the complication for you.

Yea this looks like a good way to start. Would prefer the trust though so I can add other people/items on it.

    Another question:

-If a suppressor is designed with a pistol, like the AAC Illusion 9, can I/Should I use it on a pistol that doesn't need one, like my Beretta Cheetah 7.65mm?

-Is it possible for a silencer to be too heavy/long for use on a smaller pistol like I have?

Thanks again for the help, everyone.
