Do you actually use a cargo pocket?

I can't stand cargo pockets. I get excited about a pair of pants and feel let down when I discover a cargo pocket.

How many folks actually put stuff in there?

Ahhh... Well I can't speak for others. But I would tell you that from a practical perspective, I wouldn't have a pair of pants that didn't have cargo pockets. These days my pants (except my blue jeans and dress slacks) all have cargo pockets. When I'm at a client, I'll wear my Vertx Phamtom LW, they have a cargo pocket but only one small pleat so it naturally lays flat. I sent a pair to the cleaners to remove a stain, gun oil, and they accidentally did a light press and starch. The pants actually looked nice, but that's not quite my deal.
Point is, while I have non-cargo pants, I find the cargo pocket extremely useful and like it.

    This.

Without pockets, regular pants are good for one thing, and one thing only: Not being naked.

I use cargo pockets all the time and love 'em. At home (assuming not in blue jeans), I use cargo pockets most often for sunglasses, my knife, tissues, trash, and random stuff like small kids' toys. For a day out with my family, they're indispendable, especially because I don't like holding stuff when there isn't enough to justify a backpack, and fanny packs are gay. Hip pockets are for my phone and wallet (I don't do back-pocket wallet carry, have never liked it.) At work, I don't have cargo pockets per se, but I have multiple uniform pockets I use.

I also wear 5.11 brand pants sometimes. So I'm officially a mall ninja according to this site- factor that into my opinion as you see fit.

I don't buy cargo pants or shorts for how they look. I buy them for the extra pockets. I have other pants that I wear when I don't need the extra cargo space.

My folded patrol cap always goes in the left cargo pocket. Gum, dog tags wrapped with 550 cord and chapstick goes into the right ankle pocket.

I used the cargo pocket on my left leg for a spare mag for my long gun and the left pocket was for misc. stuff a folding knife, police ball cap, flex cuffs.
