The wipe is an elastomer ring that the bullet contacts as it passes though. Picture an oversized endcap hole with a rubber washer in it with bullet diameter or slightly smaller id. It seals the can to make it quieter. I don't know by how much, but they are/were common on disposable cans.
I don't know why they would rule that way, other than to fvck with people. "Hey, that's cool... BAN IT!"

I wouldn't rule out the can, it still is leading the pack even without the wipe option, IMO. I would also consider the Rugged modular pistol can. As much as the wipe is cool I didn't buy the Ghost M because of it.
This kind of BS just boils the blood. Wipes have been around for long time. wonder what's next?

I have the Ghost, Obsidian, and TiRant 45M. The Ghost is noticeably louder than the other two despite the wipe. Downright painful in short configuration on a .45 handgun. Part of me wonders if Trump is even aware of this and the other part says Don Jr. absolutely has to know. Which seems unusually quiet for the Trump admin when in his running for office and meeting a roadblock he would say.... 'well maybe the 2A people won't stand for this'.Trump needs to take 5 minutes and nominate Alan Gura, Chris Cox or John Lott for BATFE Director, preferably tomorrow morning.
I think it's time for the 2A people to flood the WH with requests for rights restoration and a serious toning down of the ATF. This was clearly a punitive step by the ATF.
At the same time, I expect disc shaped pencil holders to start showing up on eBay.
