Leapers makes a plastic (IIRC) Commercial... but I'm not sure how far I'd trust it even though I have one of their optic risers on my AR. And Tony at Tony's Custom tells me he does sell the stock bare, though I forgot to ask if it was Commercial or Milspec.

Don't know if they're still cranking out fresh, but I know Diemaco was cranking out a lot of 'em long after Colt went to the modern M4 because for some reason the Canadian military preferred the old style. Maybe Troy has a few extras from their XM177/GAU-5 replica runs...

Not an expert, just been doing some looking into this myself. Hope some of this helps.

EDIT: FOUND IT, and it's Mil-Spec! http://www.combatprep.com/XM177-STYL...CK-p/j1122.htm They've got a waiting list already started for the next batch.

Does anyone here know why Colt abandoned aluminum in favor of fiberlite/polymer on the car stocks?

Saw them already mentioned, just thought I'd also throw a few more possibles on the table as Plan B's--I'm a firm believer in having multiple supply options, and in my own business I have a deadman switch set up to if I don't override it every two weeks, automatically send each of my clients all my data and notes on their projects and recommended candidates to take over for me in case I have an aneurysm out of the blue or something.

I fully agree. I'm glad others have posted different sources on here as Essential Arms is the only source I had. I've never heard of some of these others and I'm glad to get those links.

Also been burned by sole-sourcing before--in my model railroading days, there was like only one other guy doing the New York Central Railroad in this part of the country, and since he was the only reason my usual train shop stocked models of NYC equipment when he decided to hang it up Bye-Bye Supply Line.

Lesson learned, always have at least two and preferably three sources for anything Mission Critical. Paranoids may be miserable, but they're seldom caught with pants down.

You either have to call them or download their catalog which also has their price list. It's a link on their site somewhere.

This turned out to be an awesome little discussion. Now I can order my CAR stock soon.

Y'all are going to love this, but my issued M4 had a 4 position tube as well.
