FDE 16" in 300aac
Here's a 16" AR my son and I built together before he deployed. It was a fun project, and turned out really nice. I like it better than my Noveske's.
Aero FDE lower
Aero FDE slick upper (no FA)
Aero BCG
UTG pro 15" Keymod
BCM grip MOD3
BCM stock
BCM/VLTOR A5 buffer assembly
AAC LW 300aac 16" BBL
Silencerco Specwar 762 mount/brake
Colt LPK (ambi-selector)
Geissele SSA
BCM gunfighter mod 5 CH
Trijicon ACOG TA31RCO-M150CP
(And other bits and pieces, of course)
All of my AR's these days are 300blk. I don't think it's a "super awesome" caliber, but it's less gassy when shooting suppressed, and has lower noise and blast without a can. Also, it is legal for deer in my state.
Trying to keep it light and simple, I went with a slick-sided upper reciever. I have rarely used the Forward Assist, so..why not?
The barrel is a lighter-weight profile, carbine gassed. My other 300blk's (Noveske's) are pistol gassed, which is fine, but kinda over-gassed when shooting suppressed with supersonic loads. Combined with the VLTOR A5, it's nicely balanced (gas-wise) and tosses brass into a neat little pile.
My other AR's have NSR rails, and this UTG knock-off fulfills the same function.
Anyway, it came together nicely, and balances nicer than my 10.5" SBR's.
Altogether, it cost about $1,400, not counting the ACOG.

Very nice!
Lately I've been thinking more and more about a dedicated niche market 300 Blackout: 16" OAL barrel (i.e., probably, a pinned and welded 14.7" with a 5/8x24 A2 birdcage) dedicated to running supersonics unsuppressed. Think of it as a "pocket 8mm Kurz" if you like!
Nice choice on foregoing the forward assist (personally, I hate them).
There might be a few things there I'd do differently, but that's a ton of sexy sexy Blackout.

Thanks man.
I originally had a Black River covert comp on there, and I liked it very much. It's about the size of a .308 A2, but mitigates some blast.
My very first AR was a 14.5" Noveske with a pinned and welded FH. Eventually I sold off that upper, and I don't think I'd go that route again, preferring either 16" or a tax stamp. That Noveske lower is now SBR'ed, and has a 10.5" gen3 upper on it.

Looks good. I have that same brake on two of my AR's.
