As many here have stated---depends on the optic. If you're using a micro red dot from a quality company---hard to beat a MI/Ultimak gas tube mount. If not, side mount may be the best option.

the only problem with Ultimaks is you can not take your gas tube off. other than that they work quite well with the micro dots.

it is easier to clean the gun IMO if the gas tube is taken off. i realize that you can still clean it with it on.....but back when i ran corrosive ammo through my guns i liked being able to take out the gas tube and give it a good flushing.
