Unsure about a M14 as a collectors rifle unless you mean a pre86 NFA original. As far as M1A's go, even prebans aren't necessarily very collectible.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

Scar 17S arrived and I've temporarily topped with a Trijicon 3-9x40 Accupoint and Bobro mount. Will get some range time tomorrow, but I can already see that the charging handle isn't going to play well with the Bobro and my fingers when charging the weapon.

I was referring to the Devine M1A's and building XM21, XM25 replicas, mostly. For the true XM21 and XM25 builds, lots of hard to find USGI parts /or optics that cost a pretty penny.

I agree with Josh, if you open it up to full auto, an HK sear/MP5 can offer a lot of enjoyment and it is a fantastic investment. Add an M16A1 and you have 2 iconic firearms (for around $50k). You have a lot of options (hosts and uppers) with modern variations and readily available spare parts.

I personally prefer to collect guns that will appreciate in value - transferable MGs, german HKs, Swiss SIGs. To each their own, M1As (especially highly customized) will not appreciate much unless they are fullauto. And I would personally only own a forged receiver FA m14 (i.e. from a factory military production line like Win or h&r or a forged Smith Enterprise).

Bobro makes a mount with the lock lever reversed; perfect for the SCAR.

Thanks. The particular mount I have allows one to swap the base easily.

Since you have a SCAR 17 I'd just go with collecting modern firearms.
