setting up redding taper crimp for 45 acp

I realize this is a noob question. Before, i just used the roll crimp and barely did enough to square the case mouth.
I just came on to a redding taper crimp die. Traded for it. No instructions. Just plain jane crimper with no fancy adjustment.

I figured I would put some sharpie on some loaded brass, see how much it took to scuff the sharpie and call that good.
Am i correct? This is for LSW.

    thanks for your time

Place a case in the shell holder and raise the ram. Screw the die in until you feel it contact the mouth of the case. Any further screwing-in will begin to crimp. Most folks seem to crimp around .470" or so for lead, personally I go .471." Once you've got the amount of crimp you want, lock the ring and you're done.
