    Steyr AUG 9mm subsonic JHP...

I have an AUG. I have a 9mm conversion kit. I plan to suppress it.

I have tried several types of 115 and 124 gr HP and the majority worked well. Only some of the most blunt and/or shorter OAL had feed issues.

I'd like to try some 147gr HP. Has anyone run 147gr HP in a Steyr AUG 9mm conversion kit before and if so how did that go?

Any 147gr that go trans-sonic when used in a 16" barrel and thus to be avoided?

    Thanks.

Sorry, no help with a 9mm AUG.

Here is some data on 9mm vs barrel length:
    http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/9luger.html

The sound barrier is affected by temperature. So depending on where you live and the temps, the numbers for 147gr and 16" could be close. If you are at high elevation and lower than standard temps then it will be supersonic. For example, you live at 2000 ft and its 32F, mach is 1087 fps. Sea level standard, 59F, is 1116 fps.

Another option is the PPU or Fiocchi 158gr 9mm. Should definitely be subsonic and quiet, based on reviews. I have some but have yet to shoot it back to back with other 147s.

I have three 9mm AUG's, none are suppressed. Have plans to cut a barrel short and thread it, but can't get myself to destroy its value yet...

I've had the best luck with 124's and 147's (including hollow points), the 115 grain projectiles will cycle about 80% of the time it seems, sometimes more. I recently put about 400rds of UMC 115grain without anycycling issues, I was really surprised that it didn't choke.

My projectile of choice is 124 grain fmj. Cheap and it works great.

I am concerned that with the 16" barrel it could go maybe not full supersonic but trans-sonic which could also be not great.

I'm familiar with BBTI and the 158gr FMJ options. I don't want 158gr because they are not HP. I want expanding HP but still subsonic so 147gr is pretty much it.

I don't have any experience with 9mm AUGs, but I've had good luck with Remington Golden Sabers 147 Gr. JHPs in my MP5 with a Raptor II suppressor. I've even gotten acceptable performance from 134 Gr. Hydra Shock JHPs.

Just make sure you aren't using +P or +P+.

Fiocchi 158gr subs would likely be very quiet in the AUG. They are spooky quiet in my Uzi and mp5k-n.

LOL, we all need reading comprehension classes again.

OP - if its really cold where you live then yes, 147gr 9mm can go supersonic. I like Ranger RA9B or RA9T, both rated at 990 fps. Looks like a lot of 147gr are in that range of 990-1050 fps.

I did see this 150gr round, rated at 900fps. Might buy you margin if you are in cold climates:

I would just use 158gr fiocchi. Uses a rounded, not truncated bullet and should stay subsonic. Also it's about $300/thou.

It was more of a poke at myself for even bringing up the FMJ 158gr option when OP asked about HP. As a continued thread drift, I think I might try some 158gr in my MP5K clone in the future. I did score a brand new F Bolt so most of my moving parts are German!

I didn't really notice the massive difference in 147gr length until recently.

Lawman 147, AE 147 "truncated cone", and Ranger RA9B. I have RA9T somewhere but I think its pretty close to the 9B.
