A 14 foot Hobie Cat. At the time I'd never even been on a sailboat, just thought, hey I need that.
When I was in college I had a classmate from NYC, always talked about this corned beef sandwich from this particular deli. I took out the Amex, me, him, and two others drove to NYC (9ish hours), had lunch at the deli, spent a small fortune at Times Square (when it still had strip clubs), and drove back. Those two days put me back about $500, all of it was on my dime.
A Sea Ray 185 my buddy had sitting on consignment at his boat shop. I'd never really wanted a boat before, but it turned out to be a great purchase.
I started thinking about this and started feeling sad about myself. I don't think I've ever bought anything more expensive than a milkshake for "shits and grins" I have lots of cool stuff, but I though about and legitimized every purchase that I can recall. Man am I boring.
