You guys are somewhat motivating. Bought 5,000rds of ammo (steel case) and some muzzle breaks (Surefire Warcomp and Odin Atlas). Brought in with some inventory and kept a few goodies for myself!

Started compiling construction/firing/maintenance logs for 'em in Excel. Plan is to assemble a dedicated "Support Data" flashdrive or SD card for each firearm I build, then keep it stored somewhere on the firearm.

First tab, Construction/Configuration: Current setup with installed parts, price paid, vendor/invoice # and part it replaced where applicable with replacement date.
Second tab, Operation: Firing date, number of rounds fired, manufacturer/load/lot #, observed function/malfunction.
Third tab, Maintenance: Date, Round Count, Procedures Performed.

I'd appreciate any ideas you guys might have about refining this--what I'd REALLY love would be to know, to the extent possible without Classified Materials, how DOD armorers and depot-level guys have their recordkeeping systems set up and build on that right down to the software used, round-counters and QR codes so I can ideally set up a dedicated armorer's-bench tablet or laptop.

Yesterday I fired the first rounds through the LaRue 6.5 Grendel Ultimate Upper Kit. I've outrun my budget for a while so I have to take an optic of another rifle. I started at 100 with a M4 zero target pasted on an IPSC backer. The first three rounds were low left so I adjusted and shot the group of the day, unfortunately not where it needed to be. I managed to adjust windage without screwing anything up, when it came time to crank the elevation up, I started to unscrew the elevation cover which was a bad deal because it has a target turret cover and I twisted lord knows how much elevation into. Kind of twisted it back and fired one to see where we were. A little right, and high, adjusted of that shot and the next three were good for me.

Obviously the rifle shoots better than I, but I'm happy with the first box of shells through it.

Today I wanted to stretch the Grendel to 600 yards but it was too windy. I had taken a Burris AR-332 3X Prism off one of my rifles and replaced it with a Vortex Spitfire Prism. I shot 3 rounds at 50 to see where it hit then zeroed at 100. Then had some fun hitting metal at 200.

After about 30 rounds and six or so trips back and forth, someone else arrived and I headed home. Generally speaking when I'm on that portion of the range, when someone else shows up I leave unless I have someone to watch my back and my gear when I go down range to look and paint.
