Glad you had a good range day with your pop. Mine would have had a blast shooting some of my fire sticks. Looks like you guys had a great time. Boy every time I see your collection, I can’t help but remember that it wasn’t that long ago when you were posted asking about quality gunsmith tools. Quite the collection now bro.

I'm moving my Acog over to a new build next week, and wanted to try out a Delta Point Pro on my main shooter.

    Really dig it.

Thanks, the bug hit me pretty hard. All those and one more "20 6.5 Grendel Noveske clone were all bought or assembled over one year, this year my fund are going towards a couple suppressors and a couple more pistols.

The old man shoots pretty good for being in his 70's, he was trying to steal my new Gen II Vortex viper PST. I did let him have my older Vortex Viper.

Barrel finally arrived yesterday letting me assemble my Gibbz side charge (5.56). Hope to take it for a spin this coming week. Deciding on a lower for it. It's currently mated to my Colt lower.

Yesterday was pretty windy and cold so I retreated to the garage and played around with some lowers. The project for the day was tapping the bolt catch bosses on a couple receivers to see how it worked out.

In preparation for this momentous day I ordered the following parts:

Threaded bolt catch pins: https://www.newfrontierarmory.com/sh...c9-c5-c45-c10/ (more on this later)
Aviation length #36 drill bits: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalo...drillbit-5.php
    6-32 pulley tap: https://www.amazon.com/Drill-America...58QD1B5617XY4F

Out in the back shop I had to make a jig out of a couple pieces of scrap wood to hold the lower in my drill press vise. Once I got this done it was fairly straightforward to level the lower to make sure it was perpendicular, position the vise, lube and drill. My GSD (more accurately pup) was irritated by the drill press and barked during the drilling process, taking occasional breaks to go out in the yard and poop, a process at which he is quite adept.

Initially, I drilled only the back boss on all the receivers. After I tapped the first receiver and inserted the threaded pin I found that both bosses needed to be drilled. This caused me a great deal of joy, as it afforded me the opportunity to set up the drill press again to drill the back bosses. Reno, my dog, wisely remained outside while I completed this task.

Chasing the tapped threads on the first receiver and tapping the next three receivers was a straightforward procedure - I should note that I only tapped the back boss, not both, and that by back boss I mean the one closest to the receiver extension, which is the only direction you can drill from.

I chose the New Frontier Armory pins over the Aero pins based on photos of the pins. This may have been a mistake. In hindsight it looks as if the Aero pins would not require you to drill the front boss as they appear to be turned down more than the New Frontier pins. I won't know until I have some Aero pins in hand.

The New Frontier pins were also .212 inches too long by my figures. Reno, the dog, once again vacated the area during this discovery process. After some thought and a Diet-Pepsi, I drilled and tapped one of the hockey pucks I use as bench blocks and screwed one of the pins in until it protruded .212. I then rigged a fixture for my chop saw so my fingers were nowhere near the process and whacked the pin off.

It may seem overkill to use a 14 inch cut off saw for a .093 pin, but it worked. I finished the cut edges by chucking the pins into my Dremel, using an old stone to dress the edges. I suspect that the Aero pins may not need to be cut down, but once again, I won't know until I get a couple.

I installed bolt catches in the lowers using the pins and checked function. Whew, they worked.

The final step was using pipe cleaners to apply Aluminum Black on the threads and bored areas.

There really is no absolute need to do this modification. It does decrease the likelihood you will mar your lower removing and installing bolt catch roll pins. And it doe make it easier to remove and install bolt catches if you ever need to do so.

All in all, no performance gain, just a fun way to pass an afternoon on a cold, windy day.

Changed my Colt Trooper barrel to a BA 16" "Hanson Series". Haven't had time to shoot it yet as I have been plug aerating my 2.5 acres. Got that new toy/tool Saturday.

I put my carbine on a diet, and swapped out the Mega billet receivers for a set of forged Noveske N4 receivers. It actually made a noticeable difference, and I'm quite happy with the way my rifle feels. It's still heavy, as I equipped it with a Colt SOCOM barrel, but it now feels more balanced. BTW if anybody is interested I plan on selling the Mega receivers as a set.

Ordered a BCM BCG for my FDE build above. Gonna take the Toolcraft BCG out of that, and put it in my k.i.s.s. carbine.
