    Bolt Catch Pin

    What's better and why?

    1. One piece pin/screw

    2. Two piece pin & screw

    Thanks.

Are you referring to this? http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts...-prod4885.aspx

No screw necessary. I've never seen a two piece. Then again I'm not a "top builder."

Thanks, beginning to think I had the plague............

Changed out a bolt catch the other day. A "2 piece system" was installed. Consisted of a short pin (looked like drill rod) and a set screw to hold it in. Kind of baffled me at first, thought I had snapped a one-piece pin, but they were never connected. Couldn't find out any info on a 2 piece job, so thought I'd ask here.

    Thanks.

    Bolt Catch Pin

That makes more sense. I see what they did but I've not seen it myself. I've only seen something like this.

I haven't been able to find any info about it, guess it's not indicative of a good build.

If it ain't broke don't fix it is my motto. The pin has worked fine for 50 + years. A bolt catch isn't something I go swapping and I've never had one fail even after 14,369 rounds through one Colt I have. I can't say I've ever seen what you describe. I know some of the .308 ARs have a screw but never heard of a pin and a screw.

Nor I. I wonder if the builder ran out of the correct part and was just making do.

Not many parts are "standard" when it comes to a .308 chambered AR

I understand that, just never heard of this "fix", especially in a new rifle. I can see it for a repair. Wonder if a properly sized pin will reduce the sloppy fit...............
