    Ruger AR556 first impressions

    I happened to come across a Ruger AR556 today for what I thought was a decent price $599.99...I was somewhat looking for a beater/truck gun, so I picked it up. Before buying, I looked it over. Right off the bat I noticed that the castle nut wasn't staked...not a deal breaker, I can do it myself. Next, I wanted to take a look under the hood. Holy s***, the take down pins were a bear, but I got it pushed out, looked at the the bcg, and everything seemed to look gtg.

    Once I got home, I broke everything down and noticed something. Apparently I didn't get the exact same Ruger that I looked over at the time of purchase. This one's gas key is not staked at all. I do happen to have an extra (BCM) bcg I can throw in there, but even so...it's kind of a bummer. I suppose there's a lesson to be learned.

    The Ruger AR556 was mentioned here before. It's a sub par AR choice and deviates from the most basic of carbines. Every BCG I have seen used the Taiwanese fasteners and lacked stakings. They also had carbine buffers, unstaked castle nuts, etc...

    Among other things like unshrouded firing pins, and a wonky-ass FSB with taper pins that are six kinds of stupid to remove.
    In heavenly love abiding, no change my heart shall fear;
    and safe is such confiding, for nothing changes here:
    the storm may roar without me, my heart may low be laid;
    but God is round about me, and can I be dismayed?

    Forgot about the unshrouded carrier. The FSB is livable since it's not something that should need to be messed with.

    Unless you want to install a FF rail over it, then you need to chop of the QD.

    I contacted Ruger yesterday. They had me email them some pictures, so I'm just waiting to hear back from them.

    I understand that this rifle probably offers nothing to anyone here, but I was wondering if you're basing your opinion off my experience, or do you have other reasons as well?
