Unfortunately, I fall in that category, which is why I build the way I do. But since i now have a different job and don't have to drive an hour to the range (40 acre back yard) I'm gonna step it up a notch. I have been maybe 4 times in 3 years to the range.

I've read a lot of threads dealing with the $400 builds up to the $2000 tier I rifles, they all seem to have had an issue at one time or another.

What are the proven facts that all sub $600 AR's suffer from?

Here's a link to the finer details that BCM puts into their rifles to meet mil spec. Tell me if a $500 AR brand is following suit.

No one is saying you can't get a cheap AR that runs, we're just saying that if you want some level of assurance that your rifle will run and is built to a standard then a $500 gun is not what you should be looking at. I'm sure many of the finer points in the link above will have little to no bearing on the reliability of the rifle. However, BCM feels it necessary to do each of those steps as that is what is spec'd for the US mil /mil spec. That attention to detail stems from a company that cares more about the product(QA/QC) than meeting a price point, a target market, or gross sales numbers. That all being said there is no need to spend $2000 on a rifle either. A quality colt or BCM or LMT rifle can be had for around $1000 with little effort in looking.
