    2017 aoudad hunt

Last year I applied for and drew a public land aoudad sheep hunt in the great state of Texas. It was an amazing hunt that kicked my ass physically. I live at 6k ft of elevation and hunt in the mountains every year but due to having to hike in and out of our hunting unit every day...it was a grind. Barbary sheep are the real deal and make for a legit sheep hunt. Luckily my hunting partner had high end optics (swaro spotter was the map of the trip) because he spotted the first group of sheep at about 2k yards. We closed the distance to 250yds and I dropped the ram with two shots (first was lethal but ammo is cheap).

Ram was spotted on the bare face left of the juniper bowl with a few other sheep and shot on the cliff face that's almost white in color. He's not a 30 incher(a little over 25), but a sheep would have to live for a long time in that country to get that big. Im happy and he'll be going on my wall. My hunting partner shot two the following day.

Same draw odds for everybody and they're pretty slim...about 2-3% i think.

El cheapo TC Venture in 308win that can stack 165gr accubonds inside .75 at 100yds. It's heavy, but it works. Doubles as a trekking pole in a pinch too.
