Patrol sling for m14 type rifle?

As much I love and appreciate the usgi leather sling that came with my m21, there has to be a better sling to carry it in the field. I realize that retired m14 rifles were brought out of retirement for dmr purposes. How were these rifles slinged? Did GI ingenuity carry the day with modifications galore?

I was issued a M14 in one of those Sage chassis upgrades as a patrol rifle in 2007. I used a Steyr AUG sling I bought from Wilderness Tactical Products with some success. I turned in the rifle because it was way too heavy for what I needed it for, but the guy who's got it now is still using the sling.

I have tried the usgi leather sling that it came with, a boonie packer off my 375 hh, and now a wilderness 3 point. The sling needs to comfortably carry the rifle with no need for a hasty loop. That eliminated the usgi leather. The boonie packer was ok but not secure enough. The three point sling is working for now but is still a three point....
