Steyr... I feel your pain. The unassailable logic: 308 is a performance round, the barrel is shorter than ideal, the mags are expensive, you can build a FAL, PTR, or AR 308 SBR for about a third of the price... is starting to get overwhelmed by the "yeah but I want it" impulse. Frankly if I had 5000 grand lying around, I'd probably have given in... Just waiting for my 553R. Hopefully that will distract me. I think he is only importing 100 751s so maybe that will save me...

I recently asked the importer this question. Famae in Chile, is currently busy filling contracts for the full mil-spec products.

Not as a factory standard item. There is a gentleman who was stationed in Germany from whom I used to buy 55x parts back in the early 2000s. He told me that he saw some 551s with threaded barrels/removable flash hiders that were part of (IIRC) a german police contract. I've personally never seen one in the wild.

I think a 551 pistol with 14" threaded barrel would be the heat. Perm attach a FH of the same spec as the 16" OAL 551 barrel and you have a title-1 rifle.
