New record distance sniper kill shot - 3,540 Meters

    2.19 miles away. Amazing.

A sniper with Canada's elite special forces in Iraq has shattered the world record for the longest confirmed kill shot in military history at a staggering distance of 3,540 metres.

Sources say a member of Joint Task Force 2 killed an Islamic State insurgent with a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle while firing from a high-rise during an operation that took place within the last month in Iraq. It took under 10 seconds to hit the target.

"The shot in question actually disrupted a Daesh [Islamic State] attack on Iraqi security forces," said a military source, who stressed the operation fell within the strictures of the government's advise and assist mission. "Instead of dropping a bomb that could potentially kill civilians in the area, it is a very precise application of force and because it was so far way, the bad guys didn't have a clue what was happening."
I'd bet McMillan is loving the publicity on this one.

Damn. That is beyond impressive. Where iraq is close to the Equator, the dealing with Coriolis effect alone is mind-boggling.

I'm pretty sure it was purely accidentally awesome.

How does one even see their target in the scope at that distance? Forget dialing everything in. Absolutely insane.

Wasn't the previous record set by a Cannuck in Afghanistan back in 2002? IIRC it was affiliated with Operation Anaconda.

The prior record was held by a British sniper, Craig Harrison, who in 2009 shot a Taliban gunner from 2,475 meters, or about a mile and a half, away during an operation in Afghanistan.

Them Cannucks do know how to shoot...

The world record sniper shot means that three of the top five longest confirmed kills were carried out by Canadian snipers. The top five are:
Canadian sniper in Iraq (2017): 3,450 meters.
British sniper Craig Harrison in Afghanistan (2009): 2,475 meters
Canadian sniper Rob Furlong in Afghanistan (2002): 2,430 meters
Canadian sniper Arron Perry in Afghanistan (2002): 2,310 meters
U.S. sniper Brian Kemer in Iraq (2004): 2,300 meters
    Gettin' down innagrass.

Rumor has it that the sniper is so Canadian that he apologized in the time between pulling the trigger and the bullet hitting the enemy.
