FWIW, I don't care a bit about how a person's AR looks. None of my business if they make it look like a cheap hooker, or a $3000 call girl. Function is #1...then do whatever they want. If they know how to shoot it, then good for them.

Start with a fluted Noveske carbine, add SSA-E, nice optic and you're there!

Cobalt, Christiansen etc... Not saying they are crap. (I am more practical, simple; Colt, BCM ) If they want to spend their cash on cool aid, good for them, as long as it doesn't forgo training.

From what I understood, some of the older lowers would need them because the trigger pin holes would start to wear and oval. People would throw them on to prevent it.

To me these 16" carbines that are "all rail all the way to the muzzle" are just Frankenstein rifles. I can live with some extra barrel sticking out the end of a carbine or mid-length because it's there to keep the gun legal and nothing more.

So I guess the point is I'd have to add rails that are nearly the length of the entire barrel to my "useless" list.

What is interesting is how many people mentioned the BAD lever. Basically anything that causes your AR to not function as intended.

Several mentions of Sprinco springs with no reasons given as to why...?

Quad-railed handguards (obsolete)
Vertical fore grips and vertical/near-vertical pistol grips
Not just cheap optics, but cheap mounts too
Bayonets
Detachable carry handles

I just can't bring myself to ditch my DD 12FSP quad rail! I've had the Smyrna roll marked carbine for a decade now and it feels so...right.
I've got other, modular, rail systems, but why fix what's not broken? Maybe at next barrel change...
