    Colt OEM 2 = MK18

I like many others have already gone down the DD mk18 road. Now that I actually have a few suppressors pending inevitably the port issues of the DD would become problematic. I also owned no Colts and figured it would be good time to rectify that problem.

Some guys go all out on clone builds but from the start that was not my intention. All I really wanted was 100% Colt for the base gun and I already had the rest of the accessories sitting in the parts bin. Hardest part was waiting for the barrel come back from getting cut down. But I'm happy with how she turned out for the time being.

Colt OEM 2 16". Factory barrel cut down to 10.3" gas port opened to .070", Colt BCG, CH, etc. KAC micro rear and mk12 front sight. Surefire warcomp underneath. The factory colt lower received a KAC trigger guard and a spare LMT stock. Someday I'll get the SBR stamp back for it but for now she gets my Sionics pistol lower with A5 pistol tube and a5h2 buffer. I need to get one of the newer style braces still.

I sent it to Marvin Pitts. It was a little over 6 weeks to get it back.

Real mk18 are cut down Colts, so that's actually pretty accurate for a clone.

    That isn't always true.

The real mk18s were cut down SOCOM barrels correct? Also what's the correct gas block out of curiosity?

Yes, but most of us would like to have the Colt stamp somewhere on the barrel. btw, Marvin does great work. Like many craftsmen, he takes his time.

If you cannot get the Colt 10.3" barrel from Colt (I understand they are back-ordered or not making right now), the next best thing is to get the barrels cut by Colt or Specialized Armament and re-stamped. The downside is that this puts the cost up pretty high (to get it done right).

So, choices are limited. DD barrels are pretty much the same quality, but then they are stamped DD, but at least now they have a better port size.

The first Mk18s had cut-down M4 barrels. Eventually, Colt was able to produce 10.3" barrels for the Mk18 program. In light of this, cutting down a Colt M4 barrel to 10.3" would be correct for some Mk18 clones just as the LMT 10.5" barreled uppers would be correct for some.
