    Traveling overseas with ballistic armour.

Planning a trip and I'm going to have my Class III armor book bag. I'm also planning to bring a Class IV plate. Am I better off bringing it into checked baggage? Will I have an issue with customs traveling into the United Kingdom with the Class IV plate?

Any experience or firsthand knowledge would be helpful.

    Thanks.

If I remember correctly, Level IV is restricted as far as taking it out of the USA.

You need to check laws in the places you're visiting. Assuming you're going as a jolly tourist you need to make sure having the armor is legal. Laws are goofy lots of times.

Remember it is only illegal if you get caught.

    J/k!

I doubt the Level 4 is legal. I would hope a personal security armored backpack is do-able.

I really don't see the need to take hard armor to the UK, if you are switched on you can take cover behind something that will stop even rifle bullets. Besides most attacks are with knives.

You going to walk around wearing armor?

    Yes.

I have a IIIa ballistic armor backpack and slashproof sleeves/neck guard.

I have a prediction for your trip to the UK.

At least once you will be stopped by the police, and they may even put you in a car and take you in for questioning. I know that if I saw a person dressed like that in Israel they would be looking at the business end of my Colt commando and even 1 deviation from my commands would result in a head shot. You would be proned out on the hot cement and we would wait for the sappers and a dog to come have a look at you. You would then be taken in for questioning by the Shabak.

Not how I would want to vacation.

The OP isn't going to Israel, he's going to the UK. I don't think the Brits have quite reached the level of awareness/security that Israel has.
