    vz.58 in 5.56x45

Here's my new Czech vz.58 chambered in 5.56. I have two Czech made vz.58's chambered in 7.62x39 that have been 100% reliable, so I decided to get this one.

It's a pistol with an arm brace, but I'll be converting it to an SBR. The barrel is 11.9". This one came with the magazine well conversion to take AR15 magazines, a phantom flash hider, a light scope rail, and an arm brace. I'll be adding an optic mount once I figure out what sort of optic I'll be using. I'm not sure yet on what buttstock I'll be using.

I think I'd rather have one in 5.45x39. And I want to cry every time I see an AR buffer tube on a firearm that doesn't need one. Of course that mag well isn't helping things either, the thing I love about the 58 is the sleek lines and a distinctive lack of clunkiness.

But to each his own, if it floats your boat then rock on.

Did the Czechs make a vz. 58 in 5.45x39? If so was it for export / the commercial market or military?

Never had one but always like the looks and that they went with their own design apart from other satellite nations.

I've never seen one, but a Vz58 in 5.45 would be the coolest gun in the universe. Mags would be an issue. That would be a fun project.

I can't stomach the 5.56 variants either... but I think they saw that as a path to NATO acceptance, rather than a fashion statement, so I get it, in that respect.

I'm normally a 'factory original' kind of guy, but that adapter that lets you rock a Magpul Yugo side folding stock sure is sweet. The cool thing about the Vz is you are just one flat head screwdriver away from putting the original stock back on it.

They never made one in 5.45x39 so far as I know. I agree about AR buffer tubes on rifles that don't need the tube. I'm guessing they do it to increase the buttstock options, but I'd rather just have a folder. CNC Warrior makes a folder that's a possibility:

One thing that I like about the VZ58 is that it's a solid design that's under the radar. Who knows? Thirty years from now this could be like my Valmet M62. They couldn't give those away when they were first imported. Now it's at the top of the heap as far as military style rifles go.

I actually do like that this takes AR15 magazines. The rifle did come with two of the original factory magazines. I could remove the magazine well adapter to use them, but seem to be made almost entirely of brittle plastic, so that won't be happening.

Love my VZ! Better ergos than an AK. It's probably the only lefty friendly commbloc rifle! The safety is located by my thumb and the mag releases, although a bit odd, is located by my trigger finger!

Any issues running this in 5.56? IMO it's one of the guns that makes sense to do both 7.62x39 and 5.56 - it's pretty light & handy as noted (as opposed to heavier platforms).

As for 5.45, the regular AKs I've had in that caliber shot so smoothly & accurately that I wouldn't be tempted by a VZ variant, but admit it would be cool!

I absolutely wish they did a VZ58 in 5.45 especially if it used AK74 mags (I could live wo the last shot hold open if need be)!!

Pretty sure they never did and I've never seen one, but if we are wishing, that would be what I'd want. About the only real drawback to the Vz58 is it does have a rather stout recoil being as light as it is. A Vz74 would have been amazing, especially with the Vz para stock.

I also wouldn't have objected to a Skorpion in .380 with a 30 round magazine option.
