A1 Detachable Carry Handle and a 6720 Upper

Since I couldn't buy a full Colt 6720 here in CA I snapped up a 6720 upper when it came across the EE.

I switched twice between Magpul furniture and the original double M4 handguards and stock with both looking wrong to me... Until I dug out an old set of original carbine handguards. I also found an old Eagle(?) A2 grip with storage compartment and everything almost looked right except the Colt A2 handle I had on it still looked bulky...

So a bit of googling came up with the CNC Gunsmithing A1 Detachable Carry handle which turned out to be beautifully machined and almost 4oz lighter than the Colt A2!

Now it isn't a correct clone of anything but it looks old school lightweight with practical modern touches.

    - 6720 Upper
    - CNC Gunsmithing A1 Detachable Carry Handle
    - Ashley same plane rear sight
    - random carbine handguards
    - Raptor CH
    - Colt RE and M4 Stock
    - Eagle A2 grip with storage
    - Aero Precision lower
    - ALG trigger
    - Seekins bolt catch
    - Noveske/Magpul 60° ambi safety
    - Magpul ASAP plate
    - Magpul MOE trigger guard

Light. Looks retro, but with modern touches to keep familiarity with all my other modern AR's.

I want to know more about that carry handle.

It's beautifully machined, light, with Glock polymer knobs, and sooo A1!

However, I had to buy the A1 rear sight parts separately from Fulton Armory.

I have not seen a picture of that carrying handle in several years. They do look good. It is a good alternative to those who do not want a busy-looking A2 carrying handle and prefer the simplicity of the A1 sight.

I've been trying to get some Diemaco A1 carry handles but haven't had any luck.

Anybody know if I can remove the apertures from my A1 upper and put same plane ones? Cool idea to have a peep and a ghost ring with the same zero. My A1 has two identical peeps with different zeroes (which is handy in its own way I guess.)

Yes. The one above has an Ashley same plane aperture in it.

Now that is totally cool. I wish I had known about those carry handles as I would've bought 1 or 2 of those instead of the A2(s).

Very nice gun. Thanks for sharing it here.

Thanks for posting this information on this A1 detachable carry handle. I ordered one today. I'm going to put it on a Dissipator. If it works out like I think it will then I'm sure I'll buy another for the 6920.
