The world works in mysterious ways.

Colt had a large contract with Mexico, apparently. Said contract gets cancelled. Now Colt has a lot of lowers marked for the Mexicans.

Hmmm.....they also have a bunch of Magpul furniture they bought for their LE6920s (https://www.colt.com/Catalog/Law-Enf...Series-Carbine). Not too hard to understand how things go in the business world, and it's not just throwing crap together.

This forum is noted for people who call out BS, but usually the ones doing so know what they are talking about.

I just wanted to know if the Mexicans ordered them that way, or if the above is what actually happened. If they ordered them that way the rifles would be original to the contract, and supposedly more collectable, right? Either way, it's all good.

Because I believe they have a history of it? Delta rings are one example, iirc.

As a Colt owner and enthusiast for close to 40 years, I've seen this fairly often in their product line. Several years ago a batch of Government Model 1911's hit the shelves mismarked as Combat Commanders. I've seen other 1911 models show up with incorrect small parts. Colt is in no financial position to cast aside parts, or allow them to sit on shelves. If they can assemble functional firearms, they ship them out, sometimes as unannounced "special models".

    Right.

And as someone who works in manufacturing, the performance of the end product is the focus. Suitability/adequacy of individual components is what matters, not whether or not they match what went into the previous model(s). (Generally speaking).

This is true unless it is a customer spec job, or a product that relies on component certifications.

Again, speaking generally as I have no way of knowing what colt does or does not do.

I am not an ar15 expert by any stretch. I bought an ar15a4a number of years ago and thought it was nice but a little on the heavy side. I kept it but built a PSA lower mid-length with a CTR and magpul foreend. It's a good size but out of spec. The carry handle scrapes the shit out of the upper.

So I came to realize how higher quality the colt ar15a4 is. Before buying that colt I looked long and hard at the then $1000 le6920. I have continued looking at them as time has gone by.

When I saw a 6920 decked out with Magpul at this price i just couldn't resist. What a steal!! Excited to add a carbine length to the stable. Thanks to this forum for bringing this smoking deal to my attention.

For any of those still looking for these, I was able to snag one off gundeals.com this morning: https://www.gundeals.com/colt-le6920...rked-5-56-nato

$700 shipped, and a complete set of MOE SL furniture and MBUS. Seemed like a deal if the Trooper isn't your thing.

That is a great deal for a tried and true Colt.

    Picked mine up

I picked up one of these off gundeals.com for $700 w/ Magpul furniture (MOE SL stock, MOE K grip, etc.)

Of course it has the "SDN Mexico DF" marking, but of note it's rollmarked "M4 Carbine" like a standard LE6920, not "Colt's Law Enforcement Carbine" like some of the previous posters. Serial # is LE-prefix.

Rest of the gun is standard 6920 -- nothing to write home about. Stock trigger is definitely worse than the latest batch of Colt M4 complete lowers from Brownells, but still totally acceptable for "mil-spec". For the price, you definitely cannot go wrong w/ one of these (gonna give it to my old man).

Thanks for the recent heads up that these are still available. I had resigned myself to passing on this deal earlier in the year simply for lack of funds, but after learning there were still some to be had I couldn't bring myself to pass a second time, so I went ahead and picked one up. I received it a few days ago and couldn't be happier. Indeed a nice rifle and a killer price. Awesome early Christmas present for me!
