20 inch Faxon Gunner - First build from scratch

I decided that I could not live without a relatively light, but scoped, AR-15 for the range and hunting. I already have two 16" ARs, and wanted this build to be a little different. I knew I wanted to use quality parts, and had a $1500 (ish) budget.

    Specs:
Stripped upper and lower - Sabre Defence

    Upper parts - Sionics

Lower parts - ALG, Sionics selector, Forward Controls EMR

    Trigger - Geissele G2S

    Rail - 15" gray ALG EMR V1 M-LOK

Barrel - 20" Faxon Gunner, Faxon pinned low profile gas block

Muzzle device - Black River Tactical Mini Comp

BCG- Toolcraft Nitride with 9130 bolt

Charging Handle - BCM Mod 4

Buffer System - BCM Intermediate Buffer System (A5) Kit * I added two tungsten weights to the A5H0 buffer to create a "standard" A5H2

Furniture - Gray SL stock, K2+ pistol grip, type 1 rail covers, alloy trigger guard are all Magpul

    Scope - Leupold VX-2 4-12X40 AO, previously a VX-2 2-7X33

Scope mount - Aero extended 1"

Bipod - 6-9" Harris notched non swivel

The rifle is light (just over 7 lbs no ammo or bipod) and well balanced without the bipod. It is soft shooting and the rubbery PG and rail covers are comfortable and grippy when my hands are sweaty. The G2S blows my excellent BCM PNT trigger out of the water. The rifle has been perfectly reliable with a variety of ammunition and magazines.

Best group so far is just over 1/2".

I feel that the build met all my expectations. I will replace the Sionics single side selector with a Sionics ambidextrous selector and swap the 2-7 scope back onto the rifle after some more range time and maybe load development.

I contacted Black River Tactical and Sionics customer service prior to buying parts, and both provided excellent assistance.

I am very satisfied with all the retailers I bought parts from: Aim Surplus, BCM, BRT, Joe Bob Outfitters, Sionics, and Tom's Tactical.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

    Thanks, Nathan

Here is what I was looking for when I started the build:

USA parts as much as possible
    Free floating rail
    2 stage trigger
Adjustable length of pull stock to allow for seasonal clothing changes and shooters of various statures
18-20" barrel to increase velocity and reduce blast and concussion for the shooter and bystanders
1/8 or 1/7 twist, light weight barrel
    Coyote or deer appropriate scope

    Target Weights:
Bare rifle close to 6 lbs
Scoped rifle close to 7 lbs
Scoped rifle with bipod close to 8 lbs
Loaded, scoped rifle close to 8 lbs
Loaded, scoped rifle with bipod close to 9 lbs

The rifle with VX2 2-7x33 scope and bipod is actually about 8.2 lbs.

Nice build and parts list. Every time a see a post on a forum about the Gunner barrel I am impressed by the performance. It will be in my next build. Might try their new stainless 5r match version in that profile
