    That's actually a real thing.

Granted the above example is heavily choreographed but a couple guys have famously done it in the past. Goes without saying that it takes decades to be skilled enough to even attempt such a thing in real life and even if you are a master it can all still go sideways.

It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

Sometimes Sam Jackson is hired to play Sam Jackson and that usually means the movie is going to suck. But every now and then he turns in some decent work. He was decent in Goodfella's for the minor role he had, same can be said for Patriot Games, Jurassic Park and Fresh. His best films are 187, Jackie Brown and Rules of Engagement. Everything else is kinda meh until he became a parody with Snakes on a plane.

But no matter what else is said, he and Tommy Lee Jones both kicked ass in Rules of Engagement.

Me, not buying that's gonna be a thing with a trained swordsman looking to kill you, but in the movie he's actually gripping the blade while guy pushes it. See movie. It set the movie off on a bad tone for me

Like I said, there are only a couple "really famous" guys who have done that in real life against real people trying to kill them. I'm gonna wait for DVD for this movie though.

I assume that was some type of trapping move vs gripping the blade (I didn't see anything at the URL you posted showing the move you're referring to) and I have to admit, short a of a vid, not buying someone grabbing a sword in the manner of the guy does in that movie does not look down to see his fingers on the ground. Found it! See 1;26:. Blade would have slid through his hands like butter:

This. He's become a caricature of himself.

Yep, you are correct. All kinds of things wrong with that one. To catch a real blade you use the flats of your hands with nothing contacting the cutting edge. You kind of clap your hands onto the sides of the blade and hope like hell you do it correctly because small mistakes aren't terribly forgiving.

Even if this instance if we assume a low grade armory made "gunto" military sword, he still would have had lots of problems. If it was just a basic Arisaka bayonet he still would have had lots of problems. And where exactly do we assume he got a C-96 Mauser?

Of course this is why you don't trigger mcjack your 1911 and shoot up the beach. But here we are applying factual criticisms to a movie called Skull Island. I don't think the 12 year olds it was made for will be as discerning.

I'm waiting for my copy from NF.

Btw, end of the video link I hosted didn't you see Oyama catch the blade? OOOps, looks like I gave you a wonky link. Try this one.

That's what I was expecting to see in the vid you posted yes. Seen that done in MA movies and highly choreographed. The whole movie is pretty much like that. Good visuals but a total suspension of disbelieve required to enjoy.

    Whiskey

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one
