XM193 Lake City 55 grain 5.56 420 rounds in ammo can

I have not opened the can. As it is packed, do you have enough room for a desiccant pack ? A single desiccant packet about the size of a baseball, or slightly smaller ?

Yes, you will have room for that.

I can't help but ask. Why would you need such a large desiccant packet?

Here is all you need, and what you need. Compact, easy to "recharge" if you need to. A good can with intact gaskets and one of these...you'll be good to go for a VERY long time.

I am approximately 50 miles from the Gulf. I 'assumed' it was a good idea to have a large size pack - to absorb more moisture.

Nope, that large a pack is just overkill and *not* necessary, particularly if you are using a quality ammo can with intact gaskets that seal when you close it.

These cans are water tight. If a liquid can't get in, then it's going to be much more difficult for gaseous H2O to get in. Living near the ocean you have more salt in the air. I think the best thing you could do is not open it. I live in Georgia and keep all of my ammo in a room with a dehumidifier. I've never had a spec deterioration on exposed ammo, so the sealed ammo is good to go.

I open the can once a year to re-charge (bake) the desiccant packs. What do you want me to do with all of that synthetic cat litter ? I have no cat.

Why would you open the can if you wanted to limit moisture inside? Just keep it closed.
