    SBR duty ammo question

Im new to the local department. We are on the hook to supply our own patrol rifles so Im going to be using my 10.5 SBR with SiCo Omega attached. I am in need of a duty ammo selection. Our department dictates soft points. And Ive been running 65 grain sierra game kings before joining and was wondering if there was a better weight or bullet out of the short barrel?

The Speer gold dots seem to expand to as low as 1600fps. I decided to go with 64gr. Ones for my 9" barrel B&T app 223.

They are also only 10$ a box of 20 right now shipped.

Where are you seeing them for 10 shipped? Any idea what the actual bullet they load is?

The bullet used is Speer's 64 gr., bonded bullet.
I use these in a couple 10.5" guns, they are quite accurate.
The 55 gr. G.D. is very good as well. I have no experience with the 75 gr. version, but have read good reports on accuracy and terminal performance- like the 55 and 64 gr versions.

    From Speer:
SPEER LE Gold Dot Duty Rifle brings proven bullet technology to rifle platform. The Gold Dot bullet was the first high performance, bonded-core bullet available in handgun ammunition, and has since set the bar for duty ammunition. The nation's number one law enforcement option is now available in rifle ammunition for agencies everywhere. These specially designed loads bring law enforcement rifle ammunition to the next level. Gold Dot rifle bullets are optimized to ensure expansion out of barrels down to 10" at a wide variety of velocities out to 200 yards......

My dept requires the same.. soft point but also in the 55gr flavor. I carry the Speer Gold Dot as well. I haven't had issues with them yet in my duty 10.5".

62 fr fusion is also a viable round, nearly identical to the gold dot.

I find them quite accurate out of my 14.5", I've shot a couple 1.3-1.4" groups at 100yds with an rds and with a 1-4x.

The 75gr looks very good as well based on reports here, but have no experience with it myself.

    Thanks!

Saved me from having to ask the same question and got an order out on some gold dots to test out.

Gotta love the wealth of info provided thus far in only a few posts.

    Thanks again!

We issue both 64 gr Gold Dot and Federal 62 gr XM223SP1. No issues with either.

I carried a 10.5" (now 16" due to sniper assignment) and we are issued Federal LE223T1 55gr bonded SP. It performs excellent in both barrels and we recently did a ballistic gel demo with our supplier and the Federal performed noticeably better than Speer Gold Dot in the FBI protocol. PM me if you want info on operational use.
