    Bolt Carrier Markings

    Hey Everyone,

Was cleaning my Colt M4A1 last night and noticed grooves in the bolt carrier. All the rest of the bolt is pristine but both sides of the bolt carrier had grooves. When I first got it and went to clean the rife for the first time I tried to insert the bolt carrier backwards (I know stupid). Is this from that or from the factory? Should I be concerned?

    Thanks T

I'm assuming you're referring to the tooling marks on top and bottom of the area before the BCG tail. It's fine, you didn't do any damage with it. Shoot it with confidence and enjoy your rifle.

Those look like tooling marks from manufacturing and are in a non critical area.

    No cause for concern.

Thanks guys. I figured that much as there was no scratches or pit removed from that area.

Just out of curiosity, I pulled my BCG from my 6920 purchased back in 2010. The carrier has the exact same tooling marks in the same locations as the OP's. Damn, can you say Mil-Spec consistency?!!!

As stated, tooling marks. Non issue.
