? on Springfield Range Officer Sights

Couldn't pass up a deal on a forum classified section on a Springfield Range Officer 9MM. The sights are advertised as "match sights", but I find it VERY difficult to isolate the front plain black serrated dovetail sight.

Wonder why they didn't opt for fiber optic sights, at least for the front.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks

You're asking for recommendations for better sights? If so, I'm a huge fan of the Wilson/Vickers combo.

You inquired about a FO front sight for your Springfield RO.

The Dawson link is the proper dovetail for your RO- you plug in the height.

Your gun has adj. rear, what is current FS height- and with your ammo, is there a minor, moderate or huge gap between rear sight blade and slide dovetail?
A new FS is your opportunity to "fine tune" the height to your ammo.

FWIW- my preference is the rear sight being no more than 6 to 10 clicks "up", from being bottomed out.
It annoys me no end to have a rear sight having to be cranked way up, with a large gap between rear sight blade and slide.
But then I'm anal as hell with my equipment....

Dawson adjustables are the only iron sights I use on pistols anymore. They're fantastic and will build you any front sight size you need.

Any fixed sight (in particular "carry guns") I shoot groups from bench and calculate what height FS I need for my (carry/range) load.
(Usually I shoot a variety of carry loads (GD, HST, etc.) I can live with, of the desired weight- and choose the most accurate.)
I adjust the sights to that gun, shooting that ammo.

As GTF states; Dawson will custom fab a FS to your specs for a very reasonable charge.
Being past my prime, with deteriorating eyesight, I prefer a .090" to .100" wide FS- to allow more daylight between rear and front. I find the standard .125" to .135" wide FS's don't work for me.

    Lot to digest, thanks.

On another note: two different style magazines, the follower & butt plates are different.

Magazines can be the deal breaker with a 9 mm 1911 re. function.
Need to use ones of known quality.

There are a few good ones; Tripp, Metalform, Dawson (re-branded Metalform with metal base pad) and Wilson.
My preference is Metalform and Tripp.
    Metalform is the least expensive.
