That they have repeatedly voted no to becoming a state tells me they should be cut lose. Not that I particularly want that totally corrupt island to be a US state per se, but that too would probably improve if it were a state. I say if they vote yet again not to be a state, we vote they are on their own and become independent nation state of their own. See how long they last 'till they turn into Haiti etc. I think US citizens should have a vote to cut them lose just as they have a vote to become a state, something they have voted no on repeatedly.

Making PR a state would only serve to add democratic voters and additional democratic electoral college votes. Pass.

but IMHO to say US should not help pull out is a bit like an insurance company not honoring your policy

Sounds like they are rationing gas. His father hit the gas station about 6am, was there for over 6 hours to get his container filled.

Seeing pictures of his house, it all looks ok for both his parents and grandparents.

Problems with Puerto Rico are just getting rolling. Robberies have become epidemic. Towns forming defense groups. Crews trying to restore power starting to refuse to go without armed escorts, tons of supplies sitting in the port but not one seems to be able to get it dispersed outside the port due to logistical issues and territorial pissing matches between FEMA and groups on the ground, etc etc. Very bad. I don't know what the gun laws are, but I expect bad guys and LE have arms, and everyone else their mercy per usual when the system and civility break down. Just listened to an lengthy NPR shows with various guests and the above discussed and people calling in who have been in contact with relatives outlining the above.
