LoL! I see what you did there ... you were all unbiased sounding initially, then, BAM!

If I were living in a Mad Max apocalyptic world with no chance of spare parts and I had to lubricate my gun with feces and clean it with pee, then, yes, the AK would be supreme.

As long as there's some semblance of civilization and I can resupply and make reasonable attempts at maintenance, then there's no reason not to choose the AR.

Didn't have that before, so just sharing in case any AR devotees find themselves a bit curious, that you won't be disappointed

Wasn't 'changing religion' here gun wise ... my AR and Tavor will get their turns, may just be a little while longer
You didn't stir it up. Most of us here know the merits of each platform to know better.

I like AK's; I don't love them though. In a civilized world, I'd always choose the AR. But the AK does have it's place. I'll credit that a good AK is very reliable even with minimal or no maintenance at all.

Nothing wrong with discovering something else "also" works.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

Even better knowing that something else works and going to a class with it. Special feels when you use a "POS" AK and cheap steel cased ammo to out shoot fancy AR's. Or show how fast they can be gotten into action to get solid hits on target.

Don't ever buy a modern 5.56NATO AK as a revelation will suddenly be revealed.

"I can have accuracy without intermittent reliability?"

Then you'll begin to question everything.

Figured it would be negligent of me not to own the most used rifle platform out there today, and hey, the Galil and Sig (something) still use the same design, along with Russia

Really enjoying the thing. Its design is soo simple ... not many parts to it and few that actually move

Last night went to the indoor range and shot from a chair and the barrel resting on my range bag. Have a red dot with the RS receiver mount and shot a 3 round group with 2 holes touching and the third about a half inch away. Only 25 yards, but still, that's solid.

Definitely has changed my opinion 100% about the platform ... it's not a sharp shooter, but I'm appreciating it for its inherent design simplicity and subsequent reliablity

Anyone else feeling a bit 'converted?' by the AK?
Having "feelings" for guns is stupid. Its a tool, pick the best tool for the job. Also bench rest shooting a gun is a poor way to make a decision about a rifle. This thread is some GD shit.

Are 5.56 AKs as reliable as 7.63x39s? That's the question to me.

From what I've read, the AK's inherent reliability is due to the tapered case walls of the 7.62x39 round ... the tapered sides are inherently more feed and extraction reliable
