My experience has been the opposite, I sold my Arsenal AK's (3) and am now exclusively an AR owner (BCM COLT PWS).

Ha, yeah that's just how we roll...

AR platform easily takes this one. It's not even close. The ignorant will claim 5.56 is sub-par, but they don't know what they don't know.

I don't think many (if any at all) on this forum would buy into the notion that 5.56 is an inferior caliber.

Not even sure caliber is the issue being discussed since AKs can be had in 5.56 and ARs can be had in 7.62x39. And for me the whole "AR vs. AK" thing is a lot like arguing "Hammer vs. Screwdriver." I have ARs and I have AKs because I understand the differences between the two including the inherent strengths and weaknesses of both systems.

There is no "one size fits all" best rifle in the world, it doesn't exist. And if it did, nobody would buy anything else. There are about 5 really great "operating systems" and just about every modern military firearm of the last 50 years has been a variation on one of those systems.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

    Dang ... I see I stirred up a hornet's nest

I didn't intend for this to be an AK vs AR verbal battle thread ... we've all seen enuf of those

Was just sharing that after having never even shot an AK, now owning one I "get it" and understand the enthusiasm for them

Didn't have that before, so just sharing in case any AR devotees find themselves a bit curious, that you won't be disappointed

Wasn't 'changing religion' here gun wise ... my AR and Tavor will get their turns, may just be a little while longer

AKs and ARs both great. just different. one is not "better" than the other. but if you have to choose....choose AK
