Mother! (Spoiler alert, but read anyway)

Tonight the wife and I had the rare opportunity for a date night, and we set out to see American Assassin. Alas, when we got to the theatre it was sold out, so we opted to see Mother! instead. We expected a horror flick, some spawn of the devil stuff going on, etc.

    Wrong.

What we got was an hour and a half of mind numbing, repetitive, low key relationship drama followed by half an hour of gratuitous violence. None of it made the slightest bit of sense, but the tipping point was when a newborn child was killed and eaten. I really wish I was making this up. Everyone in the theatre said it was the worst movie they had ever seen, and I left feeling slightly sick to my stomach.

If you have children, grandchildren, or a soul for that matter, steer clear of this movie. Now I'm going to attempt to erase it from my memory with alcohol.

But Seriously, sounds super lame. I avoid Jennifer Lawrence films. She has that smug Stacey look.

A lot of these movies are not made for the working man.

Pretentious, self indulgent crap to normalize stupid tripe to further de-semsitize us into ingesting our mental gruel.

You're on point there. The entire thing felt like pure mental masturbation on the part of the director. What's really sad is it'll probably win awards for being so awful and obscene.

I really wish we had just waited the extra half hour to watch the new Kingsman, but oh well.

    You know what....

If a movie doesnt have one liners, tasteful breasteses, amusing comic relief, and the bad guy getting shoved up his own ass and kicked down the street like a basketball then it will probably suck.

And a movie can be gory in an over the top.way that it illustrates violence but becomes almost fantastic.

But eating babies or trying deliberately to be gross?...naaaaaw

Like ED-209 shooting that dude, it was shocking for a second and then you realize it was a soulless yuppie and dude was so burned up; it was no longer horrific.

You do know that Mother is about the Bible, right? You didn't mention anything on this, so I wasn't sure. When Hollywood does the Bible it's generally a disaster.

    Thanks for the review.
That looks like the suck was actually audible.

I mean I guess I can see the loose metaphors there, but they took some extreme liberties. Jesus wasn't killed and eaten as a newborn. God doesn't revel in misery, death and violence.

If anything it was the typical attack on Christianity, just in a more deranged fashion.

Yep. Extreme liberties is the Hollywood way. The baby is actually supposed to be Jesus, the people eating Him are supposed to be the church. The man of the house (forgot his name) is supposed to be God and Jenny baby's part is mother earth. I won't see it, but those I've read and trust on these things, say it's a real piece of crap.

Never even heard of the movie, can safely skip it. If I want to see Jennifer Lawrence I have "Passengers" on DVD.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

The best Christian Allegory film Hollywood ever did was Robocop.

The best Christian themed movie was A Walk to Remember
