Syrian fighter jet being shot down by a US Navy pilot

That's gonna leave a mark. I wonder if the pilot even knew what hit him or knew he's been lit up. Via SOFREP:

Here’s the video of the Syrian fighter jet being shot down by a US Navy pilot in June

On Jun. 18, F/A-18E Super Hornet belonging to the VFA-87 “Golden Warriors” and piloted by Lt. Cmdr. Michael “Mob” Tremel,” shot down a Syrian Arab Air Force Su-22 Fitter near the town of Resafa (40 km to the southwest of Raqqa, Syria).

    That'll buff out?

Doesn't look like he did any evasive maneuvers ... looked unaware

Guess that's the best way to go

Appears he was very low, perhaps on a bombing run or just finishing one. From the hit to the fireball when it slams into the ground was very short, so I gotta figure pilot was toasty. Either focused on the run or his electronics just not up to detecting the Super Hornet and saw the incoming right around "aw shit" time if he detected it at all. 'Murica.

I don't know much about the Su-22 and I'd expect Syria wouldn't have latest gen stuff anyway.

And.....I find that the most appropriate response. This has been the first legit Air to Air shootdown in a while, no?

No telling what version this was. It may/may not even have a glass cockpit. The non-glass cockpit versions had downgraded avionics from old Soviet standards. Think of this as a slightly newer F-105.
In terms of difficulty, it's almost like a P-51 vs a Ju-87 in wwII.

I didn't realize how gay Top Gun was until years later, and that music video just makes it even worse. I'm surprised the two dudes don't make out in the end of the video.

Can't wait for the remake. The originals are so old their faces look like they are pulling 4Gs when sitting still.

There are baby seal hunters out there thinking that shoot down was ugly.
The Second Amendment ACKNOWLEDGES our right to own and bear arms that are in common use that can be used for lawful purposes. The arms can be restricted ONLY if subject to historical analogue from the founding era or is dangerous (unsafe) AND unusual.

    It's that simple.

The A7 II Corsair in that music vid is soooo badass. Always thought those were cool little birds.
