Are we sure that it’s been ‘announced that he was shelving legislation to deregulate suppressors’? The quotation that I’ve read in a few places looks like the answer to a question that may have been taken out of context: [The Hearing Protection Act] “is not scheduled right now. I don’t know when it will be scheduled.”

Now it’s possible that this is, in fact, DC jargon for ‘we killed it dead,’ so please enlighten me if that’s the case. Otherwise, maybe we should take a closer look at what was said in that conversation in its entirety and why media outlets have turned ‘not scheduled’ into ‘shelved’.

The story came from Breitbart. I can’t find it anywhere else. Like most of Breitbart, I’m suspicous.

The HPA or National CCW is only going to pass under Republicans. The issue is Republicans do not have a super majority to override a filibuster in the Senate, hence, the need for a few Democratic yes votes or abstinence. Those are the facts, facts that voters in a half dozen states could change in the next Senatorial election.

Trump is the most likely reason this will be the highwater mark for this common sense legislation.

Would this have run the risk of Dems attaching amendments or was it pretty sealed before any vote? I'm not sure I'd risk it if the Dems could have mucked with it.

You all know what we'll here from Repubs next... "if y'all would only vote in a filibuster proof Republican majority we'd for sure be able to get things done. Those darn Democrats are obstructionists!"
