Colt combat unit 9 input ( getting the big again!)

After spending a bit of focused time with my M45A1 in 45 and deciding I may focus on the 1911 more again, I am considering a 9mm 1911 again. I have had two in the past both colts that ran great. i was considering the competition model at a street price around 800, but then noticed the CCU at my dealers, feels very nice. Only thing I hear so far is sometimes extractor needs tuning ( at around $1500 seems this should be dealt with better from the factory!)
Anyone have one? Sharing my leather with the M45A1 means the only other expense will hold be spare mags.
I am currently in possession of a coupon from my dealer that allows me a pistol purchase at dealer cost so I suspect he price would drop to the 1200 range.
Worth it? Or get the competition ?

In my opinion the Combat Unit is way overpriced. For that price you can get into a Dan Wesson Specialist or for less money you can get a Dan Wesson PM9. Either one are light years ahead of Colt in terms of fit, finish, quality.

But I digress, since you are considering the Colt Competition 9mm. For it's price and the fact they are now series 70 guns, i think it's a helluva deal. Aside from the rail and front strap checkering, there is really nothing that the Combat Unit has over it to justify that huge price jump.

Thanks for being the voice of reason. The 1500 msrp on a production gun is pretty hard to swallow. It was not
Too long ago the two les Baer pistols ( bought used) I owned cost around a grand. I know I got a great deal there but in perspective even a gun of that class New is only a few hundred more than the CCU

For what it's worth I'm a huge Dan Wesson fan but the Colt Competition 9 is on my short list. I'm and very seriously considering one myself for ESP in IDPA. A mag well and some checkering and it should be quite competitive.

What you pay for the colt you can get a whole lot more gun in an STI, Springfield or Dan Wesson. From the colts I have seen, shot and messed with that are all recent production I am not a huge fan. Unless I was getting a really killer deal I would look at the other brands mentioned.
Lack of Lubrication -- a lot of folks who learned on bolt guns don't understand that gas guns like women run better wet.

The pony isn't worth what they want.
