The new bogeyman... Bump fire. When we still know nothing about the weapons except the two pics and some ambiguous quotes. And one of the rifles in those pics did not have a BF stock
Not that giving ground to gun grabbers is ever a good thing, but the bump stock being there allows them to attach their flabby jowls to bump stocks, banning what is a useless gizmo no one but wanna be types play with at best. If this event was intended as some sort of grand attempt by the shooter(s) to expose how easy it is to get scary evil things that fit on scary evil rifles, by stuffing that room with every possible gizmo, it may have back fired on him/them badly. No pun intended. I wish one of the guns used had backfired and blown a face off, but even low tier stuff today generally too well built for that.

Sorry. That was parody/sarcasm. That was the first thing out of the police mouthpiece snd about the only thing they emphatically tell us is a known fact.

    I don't give a rats a** about bump stocks.

It's more that Christie showed his true stripes and the antis are beating the "see how dangerous semis can be" drum in the quotes in the article I read.

Specifically they were saying the BF was what made LV so deadly. Which I don't think has been proven, and probably never will.

They did make owning/using a BF an incremental offense to using/owning the AW. Also in the article.

Lawsuit Filed Against Mandalay Bay Alleges Hotel Was Warned About Security Flaws
From "Lawsuit Filed Against Mandalay Bay Alleges Hotel Was Warned About Security Flaws"
    ABC News (01/16/18) Lara, Jovana

A new lawsuit filed against Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino represents more than 100 victims and the families of victims who were killed Oct. 1 by a mass shooter at a music festival on the Las Vegas strip. After being shot in the head at the festival, Natalie Grumet spent 20 days in the ICU and underwent four surgeries. There are more surgeries in her future, and she says she struggles with survivor's guilt. "I think about the the 58 people who died and were killed and their families every day," she said. Grumet and two other shooting victims, Tiffany Huizar and Chelsea Romo, who lost an eye in the shooting, shared their stories as their attorney announced he filed a lawsuit against Mandalay Bay and MGM Resorts International Monday. According to attorney James Frantz, Mandalay Bay had been warned they were a soft target for a mass shooting and that they needed to improve security, add metal detectors, and have better emergency escape plans. "This hotel chain knew that and they did nothing to secure their property," Frantz said. "It was so bad, they didn't know there was a mass shooter in the hotel."

As hotels go, I'd bet their security is quite good, but hotels are what they are, soft targets. I doubt very much that hotel's security was not on on par or above that of other hotels. I suspect they will have a difficult time placing liability on the Mandalay Bay is my guess. If the Mandalay Bay had a level of security that was really capable of stopping such a thing other than shear luck, people would bitch like crazy about going through metal detectors, their bags being searched, dogs, etc. and even then, there's no gauntness. Id they can show the Mandalay Bay was truly lax in their security compared to say other large casino hotels in the city, maybe they have a case, but it would have to pretty darn bad is my guess.

Also, IIRC, a hotel room is legally the same kind of "domicile" as home for the duration that you're a paying customer, with the attendant protections thereof. You wanna search me at the door to my home after a long day on the range, that ain't gonna go over well... and with my packrat relatives, the luggage is almost always at least two trips/two carts.

This whole mess is just so much brown-egg, no matter which angle you view it from... and it stinks with all the rancidness of an un-ventilated Bowl Blaster From Hell.

I went to the international SWAT challenge a long time ago, and I can tell you, there were a bunch of heavily armed gents in various hotels with Case upon case of weapons. And lets not even talk about what would happen if there were metal detectors, etc during SHOT...

That's quite a read I'm still digesting. Pag2 42 lists weapons and such, and there were quite a few equipped with bump stocks I see. His room and houses had lots of guns, but his family nor GF had any idea he was into guns? Ok...I'm no expert on such reports, but it seems they make a convincing case he acted alone. One thing that continue to bother me, he was obviously an intelligent man and who'd taken his time in preparation with hand written bullet drop tables and all. He obviously knew there was not even a remote chance he'd ever use all those guns. I'm personally ignoring theories of gun deals gone bad and such and still feel he was trying to make some gran statement about guns and their availability and such. In his twisted mind, he was "exposing" how easy it was to obtain guns and such. Was he not an established Bernie supporter? By all indications, his beliefs, such as they were, were far left leaning.

The news picking that up yet?
