    SA M1A CQB

Friend at work has a new Springfield Armory rifle for sale. Anyone here try one out? I initially declined. 10 pounds for a carbine is heavy. New production SA not the greatest quality compared to my older SA rifles. 308 from a short barrel sounds brutal. List price of $2100 is steep. His price of $1600 is still excessive compared to quality m4 products.

Not my cup of tea, but if you're interested, consider checking with FFLs to see what they could get you one for. In today's market I'd think you could find a better deal.

Personally, is ask myself what I want this rifle for...does it fill a gap in your arsenal? If not, that's silly money to spend. It sounds like you're already well equipped and $1600 feeds your existing rifles a long way.

It has no purpose in my life. Other carbines in my possession are better equipped for the price. His proposal did make me think about the benefits or even negatives of a 308 carbine.

Skip it. My shortest m14 (Bula Defense XM21 ) is 18.5. I got an Adams arms small frame enhanced patrol for a 16" 308. Hell of a lot lighter.

Be better off spending the extra money on a Colt 901.

I cut my teeth on the M-14 and have owned quite a few M1A's and M1 Garands. I shoot more .30 caliber than anything else and prefer the cartridge for punching paper.

The M1A CQB is a decent weapon, but for a close quarters long arm I would go with a 5.56mm carbine.

As a SA M1A owner I'd say unless you have a specific interest in a short M1A, or the M1A in general stay clear. They really are a niche item and as others have stated for that kind of money there are better options available.
