If not for self defense ... well, I guess M193 cuz it's cheaper, typically. And there's something to be said for quantity. No one ever got shot with M193 and scoffed that you didn't use a barrier-blind load instead.

Or get a 7.62x39, or .22lr upper, also because the ammo is cheaper. Plus, 500 rounds of .22lr weighs what, 2 mags of 5.56?

Now if I had to choose between m193 or m855, I would choose m193. I think m855 sucks in both the accuracy and terminal ballistic categories.
From a 16'' barrel, I haven't seen m193 fragment past 100 yards personally.

I buy a lot of m193 or wolf gold, use it for training then roll my own ammo with the brass. Home defense rifle has factory varmint ammo for over penetration/legal concerns.

M193 will fragment much better, plus it's cheaper. Outside of work, I never use M855 for anything.

Like Clint says, "55 grain, it dicks them up".

M855 for windshields, super light barriers, etc. It's 2"-3' ammo out of a typical beat dick M4.

vicious was correct, Mk 262 is LR ammo (or, supposed to be). Out of my LPR, I get 5/8" groups and hopefully the 77 grain weight will retain a little more energy at distance.

Couple dudes I worked that were 55 grain sponges didn't hang around too long after…One was a very large dude, like 250+, didn't even wiggle.

The only thing I think M855 does better than 'most' 556 rounds is the anti light vehicle roll. I have a little first hand experience putting M855 into cars and it worked every time. Otherwise I would choose M193 for every other scenario.

In Israel for years we had 1 flavor, and we made it work.

USA adds a new flavor, and depending on how old your rifle was depended on which flavor you used.

But when you put the new flavor in our old 10.5" rifles, it would key hole at 3 meters

I'm a 75/77 gr OTM fan all the way. M193 is a toss up on frag (it may or may not)... especially out of an 11.5. M855 does nothing good. I shot it through auto glass, and it did no better than any other projo. (this was before bonded was around)

M855a1 is silly. I wouldn't shoot it if it were available. Feedramp damage, special mag follower, over pressured, etc.

MarkM I’m a 77gr fan myself above 193/855. I don’t hand load yet but my ideal scenario would be to buy 193 collect the brass and reload 77 gr.
