Something Hits my cheek every once in a while

My girlfriend had a spare BCM upper that she decided she'd probably never use, so I bought it from her.

It's a carbine length upper with the BCM gunfighter compensator https://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCMG...-mod-0-556.htm installed.

The upper has functioned 100% with two BCM lowers I tried it out on, but every once in a while I will feel a momentary "sting" on my left cheek. I have never experienced this with any other AR or upper in my entire life. It usually only happens one time during an entire range session of 100 rounds or more. It usually happens early in the range session. I looked at the compensator and I don't see any evidence of bullet strike. I also don't get the compensator oily so that it might spray a red hot droplet of lube back at me. I wear prescription safety goggles when I shoot so I'm not worried about losing an eye. It's just one of those "what's causing this?" issues.

What is the likelihood that the Gunfighter compensator is "spitting" material back at me?

Could it be that or is it more likely something else?

No, in fact I'm shooting aluminum cans, water bottles, and whatnot, and I'm usually at least 50 yards away.

PMC, Armscor, Federal. No reloads, just factory. I've used all of those with other uppers and I've never gotten that "sting" on my left cheek. Just trying to narrow down if changing compensators might make it go away, or if there is some debris leaking from somewhere else.

Does it have a Gas Buster CH? IIRC, those are specifically called out as Do Not Use for southpaws... I'm assuming you're a lefty since that's the cheek being hit.

Standard charging handle. I don't see anything odd about the bore. As stated earlier: no evidence of bullet strike in the compensator. I actually shoot right-handed.

The funny thing is: whatever is hitting my left cheek more or less strikes the exact spot every time.

You probably wouldn't see anything on the compensator if it was shaving... shavings of the bullet would detach after clearing then be blown backwards

It's God telling you to quit shooting garbage, and get some decent targets.
