Just when you think you've seen it all.

I would have posted this to the "Dumbest things heard in a gun store" thread, but sadly it has been closed.

I currently manage a lgs, and yesterday a guy walks in with a Taurus PT111 with the following problem:

Yep, somehow this mental midget managed to get a live round chambered backwards into the barrel. When asked how it happened he proceeded to tell us an outlandish story of how he was firing the gun and the round somehow came flying out of the magazine before it could chamber, but miraculously landed back in the gun - and backwards - before the slide could close! I swear, you can't make this stuff up.

I used some penetrating oil that has freon mixed in with it called Freeze Your Nuts to get it out. I sprayed it down the barrel until there was ice on the outside, and then I drove it out with a wooden dowel rod.

Doesn't happen all the time, but not unheard of for someone to load one into a mag backwards while bullshitting with other folks at the loading table. Generally, they don't get aligned like that, but I have seen it on the line.

I'd bet that is what happened.

Even I'm not crazy enough to use a brass range rod to tap it out. Pencils, eraser end first, also work.

He must have been reading his HK catalog.

Maybe they thought they had one of these?

We clearly have the same customers. Someone did this while I was working a year ago. I'll have to get some of that Freeze My Nuts stuff.

So obviously you can't just tap that out with a cleaning rod. Assuming you can't clear it from the chamber, how do you fix that?

    *Tap, Rack...Tap, Smack...Assess...Scrunch Nose. Throw.*

It's probably a good bet to assume the primer is below flush, but you never know. I wouldn't have been comfortable messing with a live round chambered like that. Inert that bad boy!

Case in chamber means pressure can only go in two directions. Frag grenade in one direction, harpoon gun in the other.

I would think a firm grip with some needle nose would pull the projectile while leaving the jammed case to be beat out.

We thought of using pliers first, but there wasn't enough room to get the pliers around the projectile. Using the penetrating oil with freon caused the case to shrink, and could potentially make the round inert if left to soak long enough. I didn't wait that long in this instance.
